Purposeful loneliness

3/19/09

Purposeful loneliness.
He always feels it.
Do they not like him?—
is that why he isn’t included.
Or does it billow out from within—
does he make it happen?
He knows, soon enough, in time, he won’t
be around these friends, these people that make up his days.
(And then what will it matter that he knew them?—
he’ll be forgotten).
So is it worth such an investment?—
to be happy, laugh, have fun around all of them?
When it won’t be anything but
memories in a while,
or shortly—he doesn’t know.
All he knows
is that they all go
eventually.
